The Beagle- The Great Escape Artist

The Beagles are scent hounds, and very curious. Because of their curiosity, they can be strong-willed and a bit difficult to train. They have a gentle temperament and are intelligent animals. They will follow a scent endlessly. Because of this, they may be hard to contain - hence the nickname ‘the escape artist’. If you own a Beagle, be sure it is microchipped and wearing a collar and tag. They are pack animals and prone to separation anxiety, so it’s best to have a companion for it, especially if you have a puppy.

They stand 13-16 inches at the withers and weigh up to 35 pounds. They are primarily white with large patches of black, and brown or red, with short hair, velvety ears, and a firm jaw, and tight skin on the neck.

The Beagle has been around for a while - 5 centuries in fact, so they are one of the most recognizable breeds.

I chose to paint a playful Beagle puppy catching a ball. Look how much fun he is having! The strong cast shadows have hard lines and are comprised of the colors of green, purple and blue. Typically shadows have purple in them. A common mistake Artists make is using black in their shadows.
