American Staffordshire Terrier- Waiting for the command

Although the ancestry of the Staffordshire Terrier comes from England, the American Staffordshire Terrier was instrumental to the early farmers settling in America for general farm work, guarding the homestead, and as a companion dog. It is a cross between the Bulldog and the Terrier. The American Staffordshire Terrier routinely ranks well above the Cocker Spaniel, Doberman Pinscher, Collie and Beagle by the American Temperament Test Society. This very intelligent dog is human oriented, trustworthy and a good dog for children. Most owners and breeders look to the AST for its gameness which means they are spirited and steadfast to accomplish a task. The American Staffordshire Terrier has a short coat of any color either solid or partially colored. With an athletic build, they stand 17-19” at the withers. This guy has such a regal look to him, and so strong and fit. As if he is saying to you, “What do you want me to do?” Waiting for the command. I love painting dogs that have a white bib. It gives me an opportunity to put in pastel shades of blue, pink, and purple. The blue in the white fur makes for a nice compliment to the orangish coat. This is one of my favorite paintings. Thanks for reading! And, stay tuned for the next breed, Australian Shepherd
